Tuesday 1/24

  1. Go over 1- 11 on Writing and Language test.
  2. Go over first section of Reading test.
  3. Begin SAT Corrections
  4. Writing and Language test 44 questions
  5. Reading test 52 questions

 

A.       Evaluate passages for expression/development of ideas, words in context, and Standard English conventions.

B.       Evaluate passages for command of evidence, words in context, and analysis in history, social studies and science.

Wednesday 1/25

1.       Grammar, 10.4, pp. 195-196.

2.       Reading by Judy Brady: “I Want a Wife” and complete discussion questions and submit for credit.

3.       20 minute video clip

 

A.       Identify main ideas, details, and use inference when reading complex passages.

B.       Match subjects following verbs with collective nouns.

C.        Identify author’s point of view in a non-fiction essay.

Thursday 1/26

1.    Continue/finish Evergreen Text – Continue Chapter 3: Developing the Paragraph, Parts A, B and C: Practices 1 – 7.

2.     College Reading PERA Pretest  (40 questions; 20 minutes)

3.    College Reading: Chapter 5 – Relationships Pt. I.

 

A.     Read, take notes on writing narrowed topics, controlling ideas, and topic sentences in a paragraph.

B.     Practice and apply active reading techniques.

C.     Understand connections or relationships between ideas in reading selections.

 

Friday 1/27

  1. Evergreen: Chapter 4 – Part A, Practice #1 and writing assignment #1.
  2. ACT English test, passage II, 56B.

Begin reading: EL Doctorow, “The Writer in the Family,” p. 1157. Complete character map and story map – due next Friday.

TURN IN CORRECTIONS FOR SAT WRITING AND LANGUAGE AND READING TESTS.

 

A.       Implement paragraph writing strategies of creating coherence through order.

B.       Identify usage/mechanics errors and practice rhetorical skills.

C.       Understand plot development and draw conclusions about characters.
